While walking back from the sandwich shop where I bought a Philadelphia hoagie, I was walking behind (about five feet, maybe 2 seconds) a little old lady. She stopped at the light of a busy intersection. Noticing she didn't press the button on the lightpole for the pedestrian light, I pressed the button.
Oldlady: Do you really think that helps?
Me: sure it does!
Oldlady: This is a long light I've been standing here for 5 minutes!
Me: OK
Time passes about 20 sec.
Me: OK our turn now.

The next time she comes to that intersection, I bet she presses the button..whad'ya think? :-)
(I hope she said "thanks!")
Life is so hard for some people. The answers are right there in front of them. But they just never find them. I bet tomorrow it's the same thing for this lady.
Answer to all life's problem...PRESS THE BUTTON... :)
Actualy she had been standing there all of 2 seconds before me....
that's classic!
she was just flirting with the nice young man that hit the button :)
do you read the funny stuff http://www.overheardinnewyork.com ?
Pounding on the button ALWAYS makes it go faster, it gives you something to do while your waiting anyway. It's so seldom I get to play with "technology" like light buttons too!
It's all about perspective, isn't it? In her mind, she HAD been there for five minutes. It's just that her mind hadn't caught up with reality. God, I hope I never get to that point.
Happy Memorial Day Oldman! How is life in Penn?
