Lance and NYC Marathon

The AP is reporting the following story:

Associated Press

ROME, Ga. -- Look out, New York. Lance is ready to run.
Lance Armstrong told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he plans to compete in the New York City Marathon on Nov. 5.
"We were looking at the Chicago Marathon, but a conflict arose with the date, and New York seems to fit our schedule better," Armstrong said in a telephone interview. "I've been training some, but I wouldn't call it serious. It's just something to fill a void in my life after I quit competing as a professional cyclist."
Armstrong, who is preparing for his first marathon, retired from cycling after winning an unprecedented seventh straight Tour de France last year.
Before committing to become a full-time cyclist, Armstrong competed in triathlons as a teenager. He indicated he has no plans to run marathons or enter triathlons professionally, at least not at this time.

OLDMAN - Does Lance run as a mere mortal or with the elite runners? Does he stand in the sea of runners or.... Can Kona be in the future?

Lance as a triathelete would be a great story - bring him full circle from a cocky teenager in DFW.

I'm guessing, just guessing, that he'll get to line up with the elites, or in one of the very first waves. Unless he's been hitting the Shiner Beer extra-hard since last July, I'd be surprised if he takes anything longer than 3:30, and likely will come in sub 3.

But it's kind of cool to think that he'll be in the pens with the rest of us mortals. Kind of makes me think about sending in a registration again...

Oh, and glad to hear the move is not particularly painful.

Hmm...this will be interesting...just like to see how far he can push himself.

my bet is he does a PDiddy, runs as a mere mortal to continue fundraising for Livestrong.

my second bet is he does the same in Kona.

there will be no podium finishes, but much needed money raised for cancer research.

may he live a thousand years, and have lotus blossums spring from his every step.

I am a huge Lance fan. It will be great to see how he does.

Lance has nothing to prove as far as I'm concerned. He has done more for cancer patients and research that any single individual. While on Oprah he set a record of the most money raised for cancer in a single day.

I better start training for New York---if Lance is going to be there, I HAVE to be there! :)
